HM Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin shakes hand with the people before departing to Antartica
His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (the Supreme Ruler) of Malaysia, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin consent to depart for 4-day visit to Antartica from 20th until 24th November 2011. His Majesty departed to Antartica at the Subang Royal Malaysian Airforce Base. Accompanied the Supreme Ruler were Minister of Science, Technonology and Innovation, Datuk Seri Dr. Maximus Ongkili; Chairman of Antartica Academy Science Malaysia (ASM), Tan Sri Dr. Salleh Mohd Nor, and ASM Fellow, Prof Datuk Azizan Abu Samah. The Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin is scheduled to visit the Scott Base, one of the research facility handled by New Zealand in Antartica.
The Royal Visit is in conjunction of Malaysia participation in the Antartic Treaty 1959. The visit also to strengthened the Antartic scientific researh collaboration between Malaysia and New Zealand and also to improve the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
