Fate Stay Night

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you..
Thanks for viewing my blog.

Animation article for this months will cover a japanese magical-based animation, Fate Stay Night. The animation basically is about action, romance, supernatural and thriller.

Fate Stay Night originally a visual novel created by Type Moon released January 30, 2004 for PC. It is later being adapted into animation, which is animated by Studio Deen and aired between January 6, 2006, through June 16, 2006. The series also adapted into manga series in Shonen Ace magazines.

The story is about Emiya Shiro, an amateur mechanic which attends a school named Homurabara Gakuen in Fuyuki City. 10 years ago, he is the only survivor of the massive fire hazard tradegy that has destroy a large portion of the city. He later being adopted by a man name Emiya Kiritsugu. Shiro later know the identity of his adopted father which is a mage on one conversation with him.

Unknown to Shiro, Fuyuki City were a venue to a secret and violent battle royale for a mage. Held every 60 years, 7 mage will participate in this battle and only one will emerges as the winner to grab the Holy Grail, which capable to granting any wishes. The most recent battle were 10 years ago.

Each of the competing sorcerers, known as Master will summon one familiar known as Servants. This spiritual beings has an unique super abilities and wields powerful artifacts. This servants were also a legendary spirits from the past.

His life changes after cleaning his school's kyūdō (archery) dojo late one night, Shirō stumbles upon two Servants, Archer and Lancer, battling in the school courtyard. To avoid compromising the war's secrecy, Lancer hunts down and pierces Shirō's heart with a spear. For an unknown reason, Shirō's classmate, Tohsaka Rin, uses an heirloom filled with concentrated magic, Mana (魔力, Maryoku), to resuscitate him. Shaken and dazed, Shirō returns home only to be assaulted a second time by Lancer. Shirō weakly defends himself against Lancer, but is soon overwhelmed by the powerful Servant's attack, and is sent flying into his shed's storage room. Cornered, Shirō prepares for the worst; but before Lancer can inflict another fatal blow, a young woman outfitted in alabaster armor blocks Lancer's spear. After driving Lancer away from Shiro, she introduces herself as Saber, and greets him with the words....

"I ask of you, are you my master?"

From left, Archer, Saber, Tohsaka Rin and Emiya Shiro

Character base in Fate/stay night is extremely comprehensive and expansive, with characters possessing varied and extraordinary abilities.

Emiya Shiro
Shirō Emiya is the main character of the story. He is a serious yet helpful, hardworking, and honest teenager. His hobbies include fixing a variety of broken things, from VCRs to stoves, as well as cooking and cleaning. He has some slight talent with sorcery, though he was discouraged by his foster father Kiritsugu Emiya from improving his gifts. He is initially confused about the Holy Grail War and attempts to irrationally shield others from danger, including his own Servant, Saber.

She is Shirō's Servant, an agile and powerful warrior. Loyal, independent, and reserved, Saber acts coldly but is actually suppressing her emotions to focus on her goals. Her class is considered the "Most Outstanding", with excellent ratings in all categories. Since her Master cannot effectively provide her with Mana, she minimizes her activity to preserve what she has. Saber is frustrated by Shirō's "protective" tendencies, believing his erratic and reckless behavior will jeopardize her chances of winning the Holy Grail War.

Tohsaka Rin
A model student and idol of Shirō's school who is secretly a sorceress and Master in the Holy Grail War. She is a descendant from a long line of sorcerers, and though she lacks a formal magic education, she is extremely powerful in her own right. Her father was killed in the fourth Holy Grail War, and she has trained since his death to succeed him. She is perceptive, resourceful and avidly competitive. She tried to summon a Saber-class Servant, but she accidentally called Archer instead.

He is the Servant of one of the series' main heroines, Rin Tōsaka. Due to an incomplete summon, he apparently has no memory of his previous life or identity. Archer is sarcastic and cynical - but under his hardened exterior lies a complex and dark personality that unfolds throughout the story. Though skilled with ranged weapons, he can hold his own in mêlée combat. Archer considers Shirō Emiya's idealism to be weak and delusional, recognizing Shirō's mentality of "wanting to save everyone" as naïve and impossible.

Plus, 7 sorcerers in the series will summon servant from 7 class. Saber, Archer, Lancer, Rider, Berserker, Assassin, and Caster. Only one can be summon from each class.

The storyline and the improvement of each character are impressive. Each of the character has their own personnal struggle and had to overcome them alone. Out of seven sorcerer, some of them are acquaintance with each other and had to kill each other to gain the ultimate price, The Holy Grail.

One thing that I like about this story is each Master summon a servant that are heroic figure in the past. Example, Gilgamesh, heracles, medea, King Author alongside with their special weapon like Excallibur...

If the battle happen in Malaysia, it's just like Hang Tuah being summon with his Taming Sari.... :)

Special Engagement

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you..
Thanks for viewing my blog.

Last Saturday, 23 May 2009 is my cousins engagement day. It is also my first family meeting for this year. We spend the afternoon at my grandparent house, the place where I been raised. I stayed with my grandparents until I was 5. Yes, I was raised as a 'Kampung Boy'.

One things that I really like here is it beautiful scenery. It is not a thing that you can see everyday at the city like Johor Bahru. Well, the only things that I regret that the river is not as clean and beautiful as before.

My grandmother house also surrounded by beautiful garden. Here are among of flowers that bloom at the garden.

Hmm.. don't know what this flower is...

The neighbour around my grandparents house were my grandfather relatives. Currently, agriculture has become among a popular economic activities at Batu Pahat. For examples, catfish.

As the project still only 4 moths old, thus the longest fish are only 6"

8.30 pm. The event started. Some of family relatives from both sides come at the event.

May they will someday united as husband and wife... :)

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you..
Thanks for viewing my blog.

Today Flora and Fauna will bring you the unique species of Dugong. Yes, the same species of the once popular animal in Malaysia that called "Si Tenang" a few years ago which is found by fisherman lost at the Straits of Johor from its colony.

Dugong 1

The dugong (Dugong dugon) is a large marine mammal which, together with the manatees, is one of four living species of the order Sirenia. It is the only living representative of the once-diverse family Dugongidae; its closest modern relative, Steller's Sea Cow (Hydrodamalis gigas), was hunted to extinction in the 18th century. dugong is the only strictly-marine herbivorous mammal, as all species of manatee utilize fresh water to some degree.

The dugong has been hunted for thousands of years, often for its meat and oil. Despite being legally protected in many countries throughout their range, the main causes of population decline remain anthropogenic, and include hunting, habitat degradation, and fishing-related fatalities. With its long lifespan of 70 years or more, and slow rate of reproduction, the dugong is especially vulnerable to these types of exploitation. In addition, dugongs are threatened by storms, parasites, and their natural predators, sharks, killer whales, and crocodiles.

Its habitat range into almost 37 countries throughout the Indo-Pacific.

Groups of 10,000 or more are present on the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, at Shark Bay, and in Torres Strait south of New Guinea. Before 1970, it is thought that large populations were also present in Mozambique and coastal Kenya, but these have dwindled. Palau also has a small population. On January 22, 2003, an individual was found (weight 300 kg, length 2 m) off the coast of Tanzania.

A small number of dugongs are also found in the Straits of Johor, in the Philippine provinces of Palawan, Romblon, Guimaras and Davao Oriental, in the Arabian Sea along Pakistan and in the Red Sea in Egypt provinces Marsa Alam at Marsa Abu Dabbab. The remaining dugongs in the Persian Gulf were reportedly further endangered by repeated U.S.-Iraq conflicts.

An endangered population of 50 or fewer dugongs survives around Okinawa.

Feeding -
As a herbivors, dugong diets and mainly on sea-grass, hence being called as 'sea-cows'. They will also go to any fresh water sources for drinking. Without these fresh water sources, many would not survive. The amount of these fresh water sources, however, is beginning to decline.

Migration -
During the winter, a few herds of dugongs will move to warmer places in the northern countries, such as bays and canals. Dugongs also live in warmer waters of many other countries near the equator.

Reproduction -
Gestation in the Dugong lasts around 13 months, and results in the birth of a single young. The calf is not fully weaned for a further two years, and does not become sexually mature until the age of 8-18, longer than in most other mammals. As a result, despite the longevity of the Dugong, which may live for fifty years or more, females give birth only a few times during their life, and invest considerable parental care in their young.

dugong (mother and calf)

Dugong has a long history with the human and it is proved by the 5000-year old painting at Gua Tambun, Perak.

Dugong was the only surviving species from the family of once diverse dugongidae. If a serious conservation did not take place. This unique species will someday extinct.

Here is a video of greenpeace activist trying to preserve the natural habitat of Dugong at Okinawa, Japan.

Taipei 101

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you..
Thanks for viewing my blog.

Architectural scope for this month will present to you the current highest scycraper in the world, Taipei 101. It has been entitled the highest scycraper since 2004 and it will be at least until September 2009 when Burj Dubai constructions is complete. The total cost for the tower is US$ 1.76 billion. The tower architect is C.Y.Lee & Partners.

The Tower is located at Xinyi District, Taipei.

It has been hailed as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World (Newsweek magazine, 2006) and Seven Wonders of Engineering (Discovery Channel, 2005).

The high of the tower from the ground to the highest architectural structure are about 509.2 meters. The tower has 101 floors above ground and 5 underground. The tower also has the fastest moving elevator in the world, 16.83 m/s (60.6 km/h)

Among its additional features, it is build to withstand strong typhoon and earthquake. Planners aimed for a structure that could withstand gale winds of 60 m/s (197 ft/s, 216 km/h, 134 mi/h) and the strongest earthquakes likely to occur in a 2,500 year cycle. These features combine with the solidity of its foundation to make Taipei 101 one of the most stable buildings ever constructed.

Location of Taipei 101 largest tuned mass damper

Thornton-Tomasetti Engineers along with Evergreen Consulting Engineering designed a 660 metric tons (728 short tons) steel pendulum that serves as a tuned mass damper, at a cost of NT$132 million (US$4 million).

Tuned mass damper

Suspended from the 92nd to the 88th floor, the pendulum sways to offset movements in the building caused by strong gusts. Its sphere, the largest damper sphere in the world, consists of 41 circular steel plates, each with a height of 125 mm (0.41 ft) being welded together to form a 5.5 m (18 ft) diameter sphere. Another two tuned mass dampers, each weighing 6 metric tons (7 short tons), sit at the tip of the spire. These prevent damage to the structure due to strong wind loads.

Among the towers functions:
communication, conference, library, observation, office, restaurant, retail, fitness center

The tower also the symbol of the axis mundi, a world center where earth and sky meet and the four compass directions join.

Love at Taipei 101

Can withstand strong typhoon and earthquake, I do think that the developer has do their job well done.

Perak Crisis... Again?

Assalamualaikum and peace be upon all of you..
Thanks for viewing my blog.

flag of perakPerak's coat of arm

Yesterday, 7 May 2009 was the Perak State Assembly opening ceremony. Malaysians know well about the constitutional crisis in the state. And now, the crisis somehow has stirred a huge uproar into the assembly.

The opening ceremony that should be started with royal address by Perak Regent, Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah at 10am had to wait until 3.15pm to do so. Not only that, the sitting also saw 3 one hour breaks, abusive exchanges, flared tempers, much pushing and shoving between opposing lawmakers, and former speaker V. Sivakumar being removed from the assembly by policemen.

Almost 60 Pakatan supporters were arrested throughout the day, including several DAP leaders and a blogger.

  1. Right after BN and Pakatan Assemblymen enter the Assembly, a shouting match ensued when Sivakumar ordered Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, his six exco members and the three independents friendly to BN to leave the sitting.
  2. Sivakumar refused to begin proceedings unless the group of 10 obeyed his directive and ordered the sergeant-at-arms to remove them. The sergeant-at-arms, however, refused to heed his instruction.
  3. Zambry tried to move a motion to sack Sivakumar twice but was rejected by the latter on both occasions despite support from all BN and independent assemblymen.
  4. The menteri besar then said that Sivakumar had been effectively expelled, which led to Deputy Speaker Hee Yit Foong presiding over the sitting at 10.50am.
  5. Zambry immediately proposed former Sungkai assemblyman Datuk R. Ganesan as the new speaker and was seconded by senior exco member Hamidah Osman.
  6. With support from 31 assemblymen, Hee duly announced to the sitting that Ganesan had been elected as the new speaker. Sivakumar, however, still refused to leave and remained firmly seated in the speaker's chair.

  7. DAP assemblyman Thomas Su Keong Siong tried to grab the microphone from Ganesan which led to BN assemblymen forming a protective ring around the new speaker.
  8. As the situation worsened with the two sides nearly coming to blows, several plainclothes policemen entered the hall and tried to restore order despite shouts of protest from Pakatan assemblymen.
  9. Ganesan tried his best to reason with the Pakatan assemblymen, saying
"the speaker is chosen by the assembly, not the rakyat".
  10. Sivakumar was then escorted out of the assembly by several policemen amid shouts of "keluarkan, keluarkan" (get him out, get him out).

  11. As the chaos continued, Zambry moved a motion for prayers in anticipation of Raja Nazrin delivering the royal address.
  12. Calm was momentarily restored when all the remaining 58 assemblymen took their seats and listened to Raja Nazrin's speech.

  13. Within minutes of Raja Nazrin leaving the house, Ganesan announced that the fractious meeting of the second term of the 12th Assembly was adjourned sine die.

(* story from Harakahdaily)

(* story from Utusan)

What has happen? What went wrong? Who is the bad guys?

Maybe that some of questions that can be heard in this situation. From my point of view, it is not the question who right or who wrong. It is whether can both sides, BN and PR can work together despite their political backgrounds.

UK multiparty House of Commons and USA Senate has prove their credibility to serve for their respective nations and their actually can work together and be less partisan in some situations. UK House of commons currently almost 11 parties in the assembly and still can retain order, even with Prime Minister is challenged by 2 shadow Prime Minister.

USA even with 2 party system, the senate is prove to be less partisan with its 6-years term.

But, what happen to Malaysia? 2 dominant party, 1 leader with 1 shadow leader, ended up with confrontations, and its only a state assembly with 59 seats.

Almost 1 year, both sides has said to serves for the people, but with the situations now, I think that some of this assemblymen only be elected not to serve for the people but for their own personal gain. Usually ended up, "this is what people want".

Just my personal view, I think we don't have to hold another by-elections or choose a new Chief Minister, but likely a conventions, so that this two party, BN and PR alike must do whatever they can to cooperate with each other... by any means necessary.
Perak have its own Vision 2015, and it is just 6 years from now....

be fast all assemblymen. Rakyat is watching...

The history of the Sultanate of Pahang can be traced back since the early pre-islamic era. It is founded as a vassal state to the Sultanate of Malacca, later became a territory of the Sultanate of Johor before becoming an independence Sultanate in 1861. In early age, the State is known as Inderapura. Since its foundation in 1470, the State has been ruled by two dynasty, the descendant of Malaccan Royalty and the Johorean House of Bendahara.

The history of modern Pahang started almost significantly with the fall of Johor-Riau Empire. After the line of Malaccan Royalty as the ruler of Pahang ended with the Acheh's invasion, the Johorean House of Bendahara takes control over the land. Thus, Pahang became a territory of Johor-Riau Empire centered in the south. The House of Bendahara later control the dominion with a ruler from the family, known as the Bendahara of Pahang. Even though the dominion does not received direct conflict between Sultan Ali from the House of Bendahara and Temenggung Ibrahim from the House of Temenggung to get the Johorean throne, it still play a major role.
