The Royal Malaysian Police had announced that a disrupting news regarding His Royal Highness the Raja Muda (Crown Prince) of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah has converted Catholicism was fake and slanderous action towards the Selangor Royal Family. The Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid bin Abu Bakar stated, the Selangor's Palace has contacted him and confirmed that the news a fake.

The Police IGP also added that the false news has not only worried the Sultan of Selangor but also to the Royal Family as a whole. What worse is the news also resulted anxiety among the public. The issue more or less stating that the Crown Prince of Selangor had converted Catholicism in order to marry his so called girlfriend, Christina Gomez.

Sultan of Perak died at 86

His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah had died at National Heart Institute last May 28, 2014. He was 86 years old. His Royal Highness ascended to the throne of Perak in 1984 and has celebrated his silver jubilee celebration of his reign in 2009. Sultan Azlan Shah unlike any royalties in his time, was the first Sultan in the history of Malaysia who has an exceptional achievement in his education. After ruling the State of Perak for glorious 30 years, the Sultan's life peacefully comes to an end. The official announcement of the death of the Sultan was announce by the Perak's Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir. Sultan Azlan Shah was survived by his consort, the Raja Permaisuri Bainun, a son and three daughters.

After the death of the Sultan, the Dewan Negara of Perak (Perak's Royal Council) has convened to choose a successor. Unique to Perak and the one of its kind in the world, the rules of succession of Perak reserved 6 places in the line of succession and the position is open to all descendant of the 17th Sultan of Perak (known as Waris Negeri). The Perak Royal Council has the power to appoint among the Waris Negeri to become the Inheritance Prince also known as Waris Negeri Kanan. Thus, resulted the heir to the throne comes from various descendants of previous Sultan of Perak and the son to the monarch is commonly will not inherit the throne directly from his father. Nevertheless, as if fate is besides the Raja Muda, the Perak Royal Council had chose Raja Dr Nazrin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Shah as the 35th Sultan of Perak and is styled as Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah. According to history, when Sultan Azlan Muhibbudin Shah ascended the throne of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin was the third in line to the throne. And it only takes him 3 years before he is the first in line styled as Raja Muda (Crown Prince of Perak).

Tunku Bendahara of Kedah died at 74

His Royal Highness the Tunku Bendahara of Kedah, Tunku Annuar Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah died at 12.20 am on last May 21, 2014 at Hospital Pantai Ipoh due to heart problem. He was 74 years old. The Tunku Bendahara sudden death shocked the Northern State of Kedah. He was the Councillor-General of Kedah Regency Council appointed by the Sultan of Kedah. The patriarch of the Kedah Royal Family, His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah who was on a State visit to Singapore shortened his visit and returned back to Malaysia to see the remainder of the late Tunku Bendahara.

Tunku Annuar is the third surviving son of Almarhum Sultan Badlishah by his second wife, Sultanah Asma. He is the half-brother of the reigning Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah. His death left the line of succession an open question as he is the second in line to the throne of Kedah and is expected to be the next Sultan as the incumbent Raja Muda of Kedah, Tunku Abdul Malik ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah is ailing.

Tunku Annuar was survived by his wife, the Toh Puan Bendahara of Kedah, Datuk Sri Nur Suzannah Abdullah. He married twice in his lifetime. He was first married to Sharifah Saleha binti Syed Omar Shahabudin and the second to Datuk Sri Nur Suzanna. The marriage to Sharifah Saleha produced three sons and a daughter. He was buried at the Royal Cemetary at Langgar, Kedah.

Terengganu State Constitution Crisis

13th May has always been a dark history for Malaysia due to racial tension that occur in Kuala Lumpur. It resulted the State of Emergency to be announced. One fascinating thing about history is that, its always repeated itself. Even though it is not as severe as racial tension, 13th May 2014 marks the dark episode in the State of Terengganu when the State's face its second constitutional crisis for the second time in just over a period of 5 years. The crisis was triggered after the State witness the appointment of the new Menteri Besar, the State Assemblymen of Seberang Takir, Datuk Ahmad Razif bin Abd Rahman replacing Datuk Ahmad Said. The sworn-in ceremony was held at Syarqiyyah Palace before His Royal Highness Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu late in the evening.

After the sworn-in ceremony, the former Menteri Besar announced his resignation as an UMNO's members and becoming an Independent Assemblymen in the State's Assembly. His action later were followed by 2 other State Assemblymen resulted Barisan Nasional suffered a minor seat back. In the last General Election, Barisan Nasional manage to secure 17 seats out of 32 State Assembly contested seat. When 3 members of BN becoming Independent, Barisan Nasional at the time becoming a minority with only 14 seats, losing to the opposition Pakatan Rakyat who has 15 seats. The outcome of BN would face a vote of no confidence and the new Menteri Besar becoming the shortest serving Menteri Besar in Malaysia history was alarming.

Meanwhile, Terengganu's Pakatan Rakyat led by Tuan Guru Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang only taking "wait and see" stance regarding the issue. The social websites at the time were buzzing with the prospect of the new PR Government rise in power in Terengganu. Nevertheless, much of PR's supporters were in favour of a new fresh State's Election rather that seeing a coalition government with the Independents. In addition, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang also have a faith to the reigning Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin who have the capability to steer the State in the troubled time. This is the fifth Menteri Besar in the reign of Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin since his accession to the throne in 1998. After a week, the Independent Assemblymen has announced rejoined back UMNO and the majority of BN in the State Assembly is secured. The new Menteri Besar did also announced that his administration will retain the line set by his former. Probably so that the crisis will end on a soft ground. In election 2013, it is said that Datuk Seri Ahmad Said will have a troublesome time after the election to steer the State after witnessing several bad omen, it looks like they were right after all.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong greets the President of USA

In conjunction with the 3-days State visits of the President of USA, Malaysia pull all the stops as the country of 30 million people greets the US President, Barrack Obama with a 'red-carpet' treatment. As Malaysia wished "Selamat Datang" to the President of USA which meant "Welcome" in Malay, a red carpet was rolled out during the official welcoming ceremony at Parliament Square last Saturday. Also present at the ceremony were Their Majesties the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah of Kedah and the Raja Permaisuri Agong of Malaysia, Tuanku Hajah Haminah of Kedah. Also present were the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abd Razak and his Deputy, Tan Sri Muhyiddin bin Yassin.

Obama later inspected the Guard-of-Honour mounted by 107 officers and men from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment led by Major Amriza Mohd Asshari. The ceremony marked by a 21-gun salute. The President of USA visits to Malaysia is a part of Obama's four-nation of Asia is a first by a sitting US president in 48 years since President Lyndon B. April 20, 2014 - Over 40,000 people gathered at the Istiadat Raja Bersama Rakyat in conjunction of the royal circumcision and piercing ceremony of the children of His Royal Highness the Tengku Muda of Pahang, Tengku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj ibni Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang that has been done for the first time ever at Dataran Temerloh, last night. The ceremony was attended by Their Royal Highnesses the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah and Sultanah Kalsom of Pahang. Also attended the ceremony were His Royal Highness the Tengku Mahkota (Crown Prince) of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah ibni Sultan Ahmad Shah and members of Pahang Royal Family. Also present were The Honourable Menteri Besar of Pahang, Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and wife, Datin Seri Junaini Kassim.

The ceremony was done according to Pahang royal customs and the children of Tengku Muda, Her Highness Tengku Ameera Asya and Their Highnesses Tengku Eddie Akasya and Tengku Ahmad Firman Shah were paraded on elephants in the royal procession of 20 meter long to the royal chamber for Merenjis ceremony. The arrival of the royal procession were greeted with the welcoming dances and the merenjis ceremony was started by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Pahang. After the ceremony, the children of Tengku Muda consented to mingle with the audiences. His Highness Tengku Ahmad Firman Shah stated that, the ceremony is meaningful to him and he will never forget.

The consort of Tengku Muda, Her Highness the Cik Puan Muda of Pahang, Julita Aishah stated, the ceremony was organized accordance to the Tengku Muda's wish who wanted to show the people of Pahang the side of Pahang royal customs that never shown to public.

MH370 ; Several reactions from Malaysian States Rulers and Governor

The lost of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 has received various reactions either inside or outside of the country. As it has becomes an international concerns, several international media has slammed how Malaysia handled the case, including several accusations of mismanagement and lack of coordination. As the case takes longer and longer time to solve, not to mention the lost flight is still yet to be found, patience has grew thinner and thinner by the passing day. In Malaysia, several States Rulers has stated their opinion regarding the matter.

On April 7, 2014, His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in his royal address during the State Opening session of Selangor State Assembly, expressed his sympathy over the disappearance of MH370. "I pray that the search will have a definite and satisfying answer for all parties, especially to those who are waiting for news. I hope the Malaysian Government will continue the search to find the right answer to the tragedy and I hope they will be patience in facing this dire situation". He said when opening the first meeting of the second session of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.

On April 10, 2014, His Excellency the Yang Dipertua Negeri (Governor) of Sabah, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin also expressed his sympathy over the lost Malaysian airliner. "Let us pray and hope that the families of the passengers and crews will have the patience and courage to face the situation". He said when opening the first meeting of the second session of Sabah State Legislative Assembly.

On April 11, 2014, His Royal Highness the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir and her royal consort, Her Royal Highness the Tengku Ampuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Aishah Rohani as well as the citizens of Negeri Sembilan are deeply concerned and express regrets over the incident of MH370. "I hope family members of the passengers and crew of the aircraft will be strong in facing the challenge and fate", he said when opening the First meeting of the second session of Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly seating. In the same session, the Negeri Sembilan State Assembly unanimously passed a special motion on MH370 tabled by the Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

MH370 ; Flag at half-pole for Johor and Perak

His Royal Highness the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj has announced all government and private agencies in the State to lowered the flag at half-pole. The announcement were made after the Sultan of Johor has acted to fluttered the flag at half mask as a respect for Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 Kuala Lumpur - Beijing. Also in tune with the State of Johor was the State of Perak when the Regent of Perak, His Royal Highness Raja Dr Nazrin Shah also announced the flag at half-pole as a respect and sympathy to the ill-fated MH370.

The actions were made after the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak in his Press Conference, stated that the Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 has ended at the south part of the Indian Ocean. Even though the MH370 location has been confirmed ended in the Indian Ocean, the fate of MH370 and passengers on board is still unclear.

Tengku Bendahara Selangor died at 83

His Highness the Tengku Bendahara of Selangor, Tengku Azman Shah Al-Haj ibni Almarhum Sultan Hishamuddin Alam Shah Al-Haj had died on last March 23, 2014 at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang. He was 83 years old. He is an uncle to the reigning Sultan of Selangor and a member of Selangor Royal Council of Succession (Dewan Diraja Selangor). The funeral of the Tengku Bendahara was proceeded according to Selangor Royal Custom on March 24, 2014. The prayer of the late Tengku Bendahara was done around 10.30 am at the Masjid Istana Diraja, Istana Alam Shah before been put to rest at the Royal Mausoleum. Also present in the funeral were His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and the Menteri Besar of Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

The Tengku Bendahara was born on 1st January 1931 and were the third son of Almarhum Sultan Hishamuddin Alam Shah Al-Haj by his second wife, Che Puan Hajah Kalsum binti Hj Mahmud. He was married to Tengku Thuraya binti Sultan Ibrahim IV of Kelantan on December 27, 1950 and was appointed as the Tengku Bendahara of Selangor on May 13, 1959. He also have been proclaimed as the Regent of Selangor.

MH370 ; King and the Conference of Rulers expressed their concern

On last March 8, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flights 370 went missing while on its flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The flight carries 239 passengers including 12 crews on board. The flight went missing around 1.30am and lost contact with military radar. It was officially reported missing to the MAS around 2.30 am. The lost of the flight has been an international concerns up to date and until this article was posted, the MH370 are still yet to be found.

His Majesty Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah of Kedah, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia and the Queen, Tuanku Hajah Haminah has stated their concern over the incident, and also their empathy to the families and relatives of the crews and passengers. Their Majesties also encouraged for the Solat Hajat to be done to offer prays for the missing plane.

Meanwhile, the Conference of Rulers also expressed its disappointment over the missing MH370. The statement were made by the Keeper of the Ruler's Seal, Dato' Sri Syed Danial bin Syed Ahmad. The Keeper of the Ruler's Seal also stated that the Conference of Rulers follows the development over the case and shows its gratitudes of all efforts that has been done by various parties in the search and rescue operation of MH370. The conference of Rulers also encourage all Malaysian despite their religious and political backgrounds to stand united to overcome the tragedy.

In recent event, His Royal Highness Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang and Her Royal Highness Sultanah Kalsom of Pahang has consent to visit the families of the passengers on MH370 at the Hotel Everly, Putrajaya on March 17, 2014. The royal entourage arrival was greeted by Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat, the President of Perbadanan Putrajaya. In the visit, the Sultan informed the passenger's relatives of MH370 that all efforts has been done in the Search and Rescue operation to find the missing plane.

The Four Undangs of Negeri Sembilan

Negeri Sembilan is unique in term of history as it is the only State in Malaysia which practice elected monarchy instead of linear dynasty. The State, known as Negeri Sembilan derived from the word 'Sembilan' which means the number 9. Represents the nine principality inside the State which form a sort of federation system and these 9 small states is ruled by Ruler who resides in Seri Menanti, the Royal Capital. The 4 biggest principalities in Negeri Sembilan elects a leader called Undang, who is also the 'King-maker' of the State. When the Yang Dipertuan Besar (Great Ruler) of Negeri Sembilan died, the 4 Undangs will be call upon to appoint a successor from the Four Princes of Negeri Sembilan.

The Four Undangs is as follows :-

1. The Undang of Luak Sungai Ujong

Sungai Ujong has a very long an ancient history. Previous from 1760, there exist several leaders who govern Sungai Ujong. During the brief period of Johor Empire ruled, the ruler of Sungai Ujong was bestowed a hereditary title of Dato Kelana Petra Sri Jaya. In 1773, Sungai Ujong formed the State of Negeri Sembilan.

In full, the Undang of Luak Sungai Ujong is addressed to as :- 

Yang Teramat Mulia Dato Kelana Petra Sri Jaya of Luak Sungai Ujong.

The position is elected among two noble houses known as Waris Hulu and Waris Hilir. The succession is followed the matrilineal line of the Waris.  

The incumbent for the position is :-

Yang Teramat Mulia Datuk Mubarak bin Dohak.

16th Dato Kelana Petra Sri Jaya of Luak Sungai Ujong

2. The Undang of Luak Jelebu

Jelebu is also one of the nine autonomous states which later formed the State of Negeri Sembilan in 1773.

In full, the Undang of Luak Jelebu is addressed to as :-
Yang Teramat Mulia Datuk Mendelika Menteri Akhirul Zaman, the Penghulu of Luak Jelebu
The position is elected among four noble houses, known as Waris Jelebu, Waris Ulu Jelebu, Waris Sarin and Waris Kemin.

The incumbent for the position is :-

Yang Teramat Mulia Datuk Hj Musa bin Abdul Wahab [Waris Sarin].

15th Dato Mendelika Menteri Akhiruz Zaman, the Penghulu of Luak Jelebu.

3. The Undang of Luak Johol

Johol is one of the component state which formed Negeri Sembilan in 1773. Originally known as Pasir Besar, renamed as Johol in 1723.

In full, the Undang of Luak Johol is addressed to as:-
Yang Teramat Mulia Datuk Johan Pahlawan Lela Perkasa Setiawan of Luak Jelebu.
The position is elected among the male descendants through the female line of the first ruler, Dato Putri Siti Awan. Customarily, the son of the eldest sister of the previous title-holder to succeed. The Heir Apparent is addressed to as Baginda Tan Mas.

The incumbent for the position is:-

14th Datuk Johan Pahlawan Lela Perkasa Setiawan of Luak Johol

4. The Undang Luak of Rembau

Rembau is one of the component States that makes the Negeri Sembilan in 1773. The Luak Rembau was founded in 1540 by two Minangkabau Chief, named Datuk Laut Dalam and Datuk Lela Balang. They have made a pact that the State shall be ruled by alternation between their descendant in the female line. In modern day, the northern district of Rembau becomes the Luak Tampin ruled by the Tengku Besar of Tampin while the Southern district still retain the name Rembau.

In full, the Undang of Luak Rembau is addressed to as :-
Yang Teramat Mulia Datuk Lela Maharaja (if the incumbent of the Waris Jakun)
Yang Teramat Mulia Datuk Setia Diraja (if the incumbent of the Waris Jawa)
Even though subject to election, the position of the Undang of Luak Rembau is alternates between the descendant of Datuk Laut Dalam, later bestowed a hereditary title of Datuk Lela Maharaja by the Sultan of Johor and the descendant of Datuk Lela Balang, later bestowed a hereditary title of Datuk Setia Diraja by the Sultan of Johor. Seditious Statement to the Sultan ; Karpal Singh found guilty

The Chairman of Democratic Action Party (DAP), Karpal Singh have been found guilty by the High Court for sedition after questioning His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak 's action in removing Dato' Seri Ir Nizar bin Jamaluddin as the Menteri Besar in 2009. Justice Datuk Azman Abdullah set March 7 for sentencing after Karpal Singh counsel who is also his son, Gobind Singh Deo, informed the court that his father is unwell  and needed time to prepare his mitigation.

Karpal Singh, 73, was charged with having said at his legal firm in Jalan Pudu Lama on Feb 6, 2009 that the removal of Dato Seri Ir Mohammad Nizar and the appointment of Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir as the new Menteri Besar by the Sultan could be questioned in court. The charged, under section 4 (1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 , provides for a maximum jail term of three years and a fine of RM5,000 or both, upon conviction.

The High Court had, on June 11, 2010 acquitted and discharged Karpal Singh without calling for his defense but, following an appeal by the prosecution, the Court of Appeal, on Jan 20, 2012 ordered the MP of Bukit Gelugor to make his defense. Azman, in his judgement, said the Court found that Karpal Singh's testimony, delivered after seven days, and that of another defence witness had failed to raised a reasonable doubt in the prosecution's case.

Karpal Singh told the reporters that he respected the decision of the High Court, and that he would appeal soon after the court meted out the sentence.

Discussion : Sultan of Selangor is the Head of Religion

Pasca General Election 2013 mark a new story for the richest state in Malaysia, the State of Selangor Darul Ehsan fondly known as the Land of Goodness. The recent event of the word Allah when the Sultan of Selangor announce the word Allah is exclusive to Muslim only has started some uproar. And since that, it has become an open debate in the social media and internet stating the Sultan is only the Head of Islam. Nevertheless, the Sultan action is actually a manifestation of the Sultan power and authority, where His Royal Highness is not just a mere Head of Islam, but the State Constitution under Article 48 clearly stated him as 'the Head of Religion'.

Having read the constitution myself, it is clear that the State Constitutional Monarchy is not just a figurehead, but an institution to be reckon with, and having absolute power over religion. The article above reserve a power for His Royal Highness that, under his jurisdiction he has the power and authority over all religions that may affect Islam. If His Royal highness's stated that the word Allah used by other religion may affect Islam, then he has a say in that matter.

And until now, the Sultan of Selangor is not alone. 2 other monarchs, His Royal Highness the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan and His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong under his capacity as the Sultan of Kedah has taken the same side as the Sultan of Selangor. Do not question the exclusiveness of the word Allah by Muslim.

Former Sultanah's case II ; Rejection from the Sharia Court

On last 20 January 2014, Her Highness Tunku Puan Zanariah binti Tengku Ahmad, the former Sultanah of Johor has failed in her case to set aside a court order that her late husband, Almarhum Sultan Iskandar had divorced her on 23rd January 2009. Judge Muhammad Khaldun Mohd Sharif has stated that, the Johor Sharia Court has been a subject to related Fatwa regarding the matter. Her Highness's Lawyer, Afshah Arifin stated to the Court that the divorced statement of the late Sultan was invalid according to the Islamic Rules. The defendant will filed an appeal regarding the matter in the future.

The word Allah ; Between Islam and Christian

The difference of opinions between the Catholic Church in Selangor and the State of Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor, JAIS) have entered a new chapter today after the Islamic Department have raided the Bible Society of Malaysia, where 300 copies of the Bibles in Bahasa Malaysia and iban were seized. The Church and the State's JAIS have been at odd especially regarding the question whether the Catholic Church in Malaysia could used the word 'Allah' to refer to the word God in the Malay translation of the Bible. The Catholic Church had contested this in court and won a High Court decision in 2009, upholding its constitutional rights to do so. Putrajaya later appealed the decision and successfully overturned the earlier decision when the Court of Appeal ruled in October 2013 that 'Allah was not integral to the Christian faith'.

In the Federation, the power of Islamic Affairs are in the hand of the States. 9 of them which have hereditary rulers, also known as 'the Malay States' have separate Islamic Religious Councils and Departments, including having each Monarch as the State's Head of Islam. In the case of Selangor, the Sultan of Selangor, His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has also stated that the word 'Allah' are exclusive to Muslims and the other religions are prohibited to use it. One of the Catholic Priest in the State, Father Lawrence Andrew, openly against it and stated that all catholic churches in the State will used the word 'Allah' in their weekend services in Bahasa Malaysia, primarily attended by Sabahan and Sarawakian.

The question that usually arise is what authority that the Islamic Department has to prevent the other religion to use the word 'Allah'. The answer is simple, because the State Constitution has already been enacted about it by the previous BN government, and the State Islamic Council has the jurisdiction regarding the Islamic Affairs, as well as the other religious affairs in the State by the State's Selangor Non-Islamic Religion (Control of Propagation among Muslims) enactment 1988. Among the words and phrases that prohibits non-muslims to used in the State includes 'Allah', 'Nabi', 'Injil' and 'In Shaa Allah'.

Personal opinion

It is more prudent for the other non-islamic religion to comply with the ruling regarding these issues. It is a sensitives issues I agreed and cannot be openly discussed. And among the Federation most prominent Ulama', among others Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz bin Nik Mat also against it (even though in favour of it earlier). And personally, I too feels there is the need to neglect the confusion between these two religions.

Nevertheless, I have in the past having professional discussion with one of my Iban friend regarding the matter, and both of us actually understand the problem that we face. But what he has stated also acted as the eye-opener for me, "Only those who doesn't read Al-Quran would have confused between the verses of Al-Quran and Al-Kitab". Previously, I too have been encouraged by one of the Ulama' in Malaysia to read an Al-Quran which have both Arabic and Malay Translation every time reading it, and now I see why.

Former Sultanah submits application to Syariah Court

Her Highness Tunku Puan Zanariah binti Almarhum Tunku Ahmad had filed an application to Syariah Court to set aside an earlier court order that her late husband, Almarhum Sultan Iskandar al-Haj of Johor had divorced her on 23rd January 2009. Her Highness also wants the ruju' pronounced a week later after the purported divorce be declared invalid. In her affidavit in support of the application, she alleged that the state administration, especially the religious authorities were used in an attempt to defame her and Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.

Tunku Puan Zanariah said that the late ruler did not make any application to verify the alleged divorce, adding that she and the late Sultan Iskandar were both living together as lawful husband and wife in peace and harmony until the late Sultan demise on 22nd January 2010. Almarhum Sultan Iskandar was named as plaintiff in that case while Tunku Puan Zanariah was the defendant, meaning that the late ruler was initiating legal action against his wife.

However, Tunku Puan Zanariah said that she was not informed nor served with any papers of the court proceedings and only learned about it on September 30, 2013 through a letter sent by the Mufti of Johor, Datuk Mohd Tahrir Syamsuddin. Also, the Tunku Puan also stated that she was not informed when the then Menteri Besar of Johor, Datuk Abd Ghani Othman had on December 9, 2010 written a letter to her stripping her of the title Her Royal Highness Sultanah.

Her Highness Tunku Puan Zanariah was not present, but her lawyers, Afshah Arifin and Kamar Ainiah Kamaruzaman were in the court to file the documents. Outside the court, Tunku Puan Zanariah's youngest daughter, Tunku Masera stated that, she is disappointed over the way her mother had been treated. The case will be mentioned on January 20, 2014.

Happy New Year 2014

Happy a brand new year 2014 for all of you fellow Malaysian and for the rest of the world. This year is a special year for Malaysia. This is the Visit Malaysia Year 2014. Malaysia is a federation consist of 13 States. We are not a huge country in the world, not even in South East Asia. But Malaysia are ranked among the most diverse nation in the world. We are diverse in our own right, each of the 13 States has their own unique traits and specialty. As this blog is obviously covering Malaysia Royalty, hence, I will promote certain covering for all royal events hunters out there a little scope of our interesting places.

Royal Palaces

The most important places for our royalty is definitely the Istana Negara (National Palace) located in the Federal Capital, Kuala Lumpur. Whether it is the current occupied new Palace, or old Palace located in Jalan Istana, both are open for public to see. In the National Palace, the important event would be 'The changing of the guards' at the Palace's entrance. While in the old Palace, it has been opened to public as a royal museum. Be sure to see both of it.

In the State level meanwhile, there are various interesting Palaces throughout the Federation. Among the most interesting would be the Old Palace of Seri Menanti, which has been dubbed as "The tallest timber palace in the world". It is the previous royal seat of Yamtuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan before it been removed to the new palace. It also has been changed into a museum. It is located in the Royal Capital of Negeri Sembilan, Seri Menanti.

From Negeri Sembilan, you can travel south to witness the Grand Palace of Johor Bahru. The royal seat of the Sultan of Johor. It is scheduled that the coronation of the Sultan of Johor would take place in May 5th, 2014. The palace had been undergo massive renovation since 2012 where the blue tile roof also had been changed to its original colour, Red.

From Johor, you can travel to the north to the State of Terengganu and Kelantan, where both States has been exclusively a core Malay States since the independent of the Federation of Malaya. Both also have exclusively interesting Palaces such as the Syarqiyyah Palace, the new royal seat for the Sultan of Terengganu. Then, you can travel further north to the State of Kelantan, where several timber palaces since the State foundation still standing, such as Istana Jahar.

The State of Kelantan historical royal palaces is among the oldest in Malaysia, has been around since 1840. And the palaces is not to far apart.

And from Kelantan, traveling to the oldest State in Malaysia, Kedah is not a bad idea. Here standing among the grandest wooden palace, the Balai Besar Palace. Kedah as the oldest State in Malaysia also a home to massive historical buildings. Such as also this one. This run-out building were a palace for one of the Sultan consorts, the Sepahchandra Palace.

And from Malaya, it is a good thing also to visit the diversity of the Northern part of Borneo, in the State of Sarawak and Sabah. Also is a home to a former European citizen who been installed as the Rajah of Sarawak, the Astana in the past.
