The office of the Yang Dipertua Negeri (Governor) of Sabah was formed after the independence of British North Borneo and later became one of the states in the Federation of Malaysia. The office officially formed on 16th September 1963. The Governor of Sabah is address as :-

TUN DATU MUSTAPHA
(1963 - 1965)
Tun Datu Mustapha bin Datu Harun was the first Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 31st July 1918 at Kg Limau-Limauan, Kudat, Sabah. He was appointed as the Governor of Sabah on 16th September 1963. He resigned from the position on 16th September 1965.
He was known as Sabah’s Father of Independence and Sabah’s Father of Development. He died on 2nd February 1995.
TUN PENGIRAN
(1965 - 1973)
Tun Datuk Pengiran bin Ahmad Raffae was the second Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 4th November 1908 at Sipitang, Beaufort, Sabah. He was the acting Governor of Sabah from 1964 until 1965. He was officially appointed as the Governor of Sabah on 1965. He holds the position until 1973.
He died on March 1995.
TUN MUHAMMAD FUAD STEPHENS
(1973 - 1975)
Tun Muhammad Fuad Stephens @ Donald Stephens was the third Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 14th September 1920 at Kudat, Sabah. He was appointed as the Governor of Sabah on April 1973 and holds the position until June 1975.
He died in a GAF Nomad air crash on 6th June 1976. The crash was also known as a Double Six Tragedy.
TUN MOHD HAMDAN
(1975 - 1977)
Tun Mohd Hamdan bin Abdullah was the fourth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 22nd February 1922 at Kg Labuaya, Tuaran, Sabah. He was appointed as the Governor of Sabah on 28th July 1975.
He holds the position until his death on 1977.
TUN AHMAD KOROH
(1977 - 1978)
Tun Haji Ahmad Koroh was the fifth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 1st January 1925 at Kg Limbawan, Keningau, Sabah. He was appointed as the Governor of Sabah on 1977 replacing Tun Mohd Hamdan who died on the same year.
He holds the position until his death on 1978.
TUN MOHD ADNAN ROBERT
(1979 - 1987)
Tun Haji Mohd Adnan Robert was the sixth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 10th September 1917 at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. He was appointed as the Governor of Sabah on 27th June 1978. He serves as the Governor of Sabah for two consecutive terms until 1987.
He died on 2003.
TUN MOHAMED SAID
(1987 - 1995)
Tun Haji Mohamed Said bin Keruak was the seventh Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 15th November 1926 at Kg Pirasan, Kota Belud, Sabah. He was appointed as the Governor of Sabah on 1987. He serves as the Governor of Sabah until his retirement in 1995.
He died on 1995.
TUN SAKARAN
(1995 - 2002)
Tun Sakaran bin Dandai was the eighth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 15th April 1930 at Kg Air, Sempoarna, Sabah. He was appointed as the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah on 1st January 1995. He later re-appointed for the second consecutive term on 1st January 1999. He serves as the Governor of Sabah until 31st December 2002.
TUN AHMADSHAH
(2003 - 2010)
Tun Ahmadshah bin Abdullah was the ninth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 9th December 1946 at Inanam, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. He was appointed as the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah on 1st January 2003. He serves as the Governor of Sabah until 31st December 2010.
TUN JUHAR
(2011 - present)
Tun Juhar bin Mahiruddin is the tenth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 5th November 1953 on Pulau Tambisan, Sandakan, Sabah. He was appointed as the Yang Dipertua Negeri on 1st January 2011 and currently still holds the title.
