His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has stated that the statement made by the Menteri Besar of Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim that he had suggested the State Government to set up a Syura Consultative Council to solve the JAIS-Church issue as untrue. In a statement issued by the Private Secretary of the Sultan of Selangor, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani stated out of what had happened at the during the meeting.

The Menteri Besar of Selangor informed the Sultan that he intended to call and meet with DUMC representatives. It is to get a clarification from DUMC on JAIS' investigation on the church and he proposed to bring along the Mufti of Selangor, Datuk Mohd Tamyes Abdul Wahid to the meeting. The Sultan was not opposed to the intention of Menteri Besar to call for a meeting of the church representatives with the Mufti of Selangor, but His Royal Highness advised to the Menteri Besar to also invite the Deputy Mufti of Selangor, Datuk Abdul Majid Omar to give advice on matters pertaining to Syariah rulings and did not at all touch on the issue of Jais' investigation on the church.

Thus, the Private Secretary also stated, the claim that the Sultan of Selangor had ordered or advised the state government to set up a Syura (consultative) council was not true. The Sultan had not consented to the setting up of such a consultative council or a dialogue on religion, as Selangor already had a State Islamic Religious Council, State Islamic Religious Department and State Mufti Department to oversee religious matters.

Response from the State Government

After a clarification statement made by the office of the Sultan of Selangor through the Private Secretary of the Sultan, the State Government announce their regret
over its use of the name "Syura Council" for a committee it has set up to resolve the issue.

In a statement issued by the State Government, its has now decided to change the name to Hearing Committee to prevent any overlapping of functions with the Syura Council of the state government, which is headed by the Selangor Islamic Religious Council. The State Government also added that they would abide by the advice of the Sultan of Selangor and cooperate with all parties to find the best solution to the issue.
