The General-Secretary of Malaysia, Tan Sri Mohd. Sidek Hassan announced a public holiday on 11th April 2012 in conjunction of the installation of His Majesty Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah of Kedah as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (the Supreme Ruler) of Malaysia. The ceremony will be held at the throne chamber of National Palace, Kuala Lumpur. The announcement was made according to Section 8 of Public Holiday Act 1951 for the Malaysian Peninsular and the Federal Territory of Labuan. The State of Sabah and Sarawak can act according to the State respective constitution.
The installation ceremony was made in conjunction of the election of Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah replacing Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu who completed his five-year term as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (the Supreme Ruler) on December 13th last year.
