Yang Dipertua Negeri (Governor) of Sabah

The office of the Yang Dipertua Negeri (Governor) of Sabah was formed after the independence of British North Borneo and later became one of the states in the Federation of Malaysia. The office officially formed on 16^th September 1963. The Governor of Sabah is address as :-

TUN DATU MUSTAPHA
(1963 - 1965)

Tun Datu Mustapha bin Datu Harun was the first Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 31^st July 1918 at Kg Limau-Limauan, Kudat, Sabah. He was appointed as the Governor of Sabah on 16^th September 1963. He resigned from the position on 16^th September 1965.

He was known as Sabah’s Father of Independence and Sabah’s Father of Development. He died on 2^nd February 1995.

TUN PENGIRAN
(1965 - 1973)

Tun Datuk Pengiran bin Ahmad Raffae was the second Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 4^th November 1908 at Sipitang, Beaufort, Sabah. He was the acting Governor of Sabah from 1964 until 1965. He was officially appointed as the Governor of Sabah on 1965. He holds the position until 1973.

He died on March 1995.

TUN MUHAMMAD FUAD STEPHENS
(1973 - 1975)

Tun Muhammad Fuad Stephens @ Donald Stephens was the third Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 14^th September 1920 at Kudat, Sabah. He was appointed as the Governor of Sabah on April 1973 and holds the position until June 1975.

He died in a GAF Nomad air crash on 6^th June 1976. The crash was also known as a Double Six Tragedy.

TUN MOHD HAMDAN
(1975 - 1977)

Tun Mohd Hamdan bin Abdullah was the fourth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 22nd February 1922 at Kg Labuaya, Tuaran, Sabah. He was appointed as the Governor of Sabah on 28^th July 1975.

He holds the position until his death on 1977.


TUN AHMAD KOROH
(1977 - 1978)

Tun Haji Ahmad Koroh was the fifth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 1^st January 1925 at Kg Limbawan, Keningau, Sabah. He was appointed as the Governor of Sabah on 1977 replacing Tun Mohd Hamdan who died on the same year.

He holds the position until his death on 1978.


TUN MOHD ADNAN ROBERT
(1979 - 1987)

Tun Haji Mohd Adnan Robert was the sixth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 10^th September 1917 at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. He was appointed as the Governor of Sabah on 27^th June 1978. He serves as the Governor of Sabah for two consecutive terms until 1987.

He died on 2003.

TUN MOHAMED SAID
(1987 - 1995)

Tun Haji Mohamed Said bin Keruak was the seventh Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 15^th November 1926 at Kg Pirasan, Kota Belud, Sabah. He was appointed as the Governor of Sabah on 1987. He serves as the Governor of Sabah until his retirement in 1995.

He died on 1995.


TUN SAKARAN
(1995 - 2002)

Tun Sakaran bin Dandai was the eighth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 15^th April 1930 at Kg Air, Sempoarna, Sabah. He was appointed as the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah on 1^st January 1995. He later re-appointed for the second consecutive term on 1^st January 1999. He serves as the Governor of Sabah until 31^st December 2002.

TUN AHMADSHAH
(2003 - 2010)

Tun Ahmadshah bin Abdullah was the ninth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 9^th December 1946 at Inanam, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. He was appointed as the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah on 1^st January 2003. He serves as the Governor of Sabah until 31^st December 2010.

TUN JUHAR
(2011 - present)

Tun Juhar bin Mahiruddin is the tenth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. He was born on 5^th November 1953 on Pulau Tambisan, Sandakan, Sabah. He was appointed as the Yang Dipertua Negeri on 1^st January 2011 and currently still holds the title.

The Sultan of Kelantan will get married

HRH Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan

HRH the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V give the impression that he would marry. In the Press Statement held at the State Palace of Kubang Kerian yesterday for the announcement of the launching ceremony of Yayasan Kelantan that should be held in Kuala Lumpur this Saturday, the Sultan Muhammad V were asked whether or not he would get married. With a smile, the Sultan Muhammad V replied,

"Insya-Allah saya berdoa, Insya-Allah Tuhan akan makbul."

God willing, I pray, God willing, God will fulfill.

Sultan Muhammad V however did not elaborate about the matter. The Sultan Muhammad V who has been proclaimed as the Sultan of Kelantan on 13th September 2010 was first married to Tengku Zubaidah binti Tengku Noruddin (Kangsadarn Phipitphakdee) and the marriage ended up in divorced. The couple did not get any child from the marriage.

HRH the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail gave his consent to proclaim the opening ceremony of Hotel Seri Malaysia new branch in Kangar. The estimated value of Hotel Seri Malaysia Kangar is around RM27.5 mil is also the 21^st branch of Rangkaian Hotel Seri Malaysia (RHSM). The hotel has 150 rooms comprising of 2 VIP suites, 58 families rooms, 88 standard rooms, seminar halls that can accommodate almost 500 persons and a restaurant. HE the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Abg Muhammad Salahuddin Abg Barieng greeted the line of Minister in the sworn in ceremony takes place at Sarawak State Assembly Building. Also presence is the wife of Governor, HE Toh Puan Norkiah Abdullah

HE the Yang Dipertua Negeri (Governor) of Sarawak, Tun Abg Muhammad Salahuddin Abg Barieng gave his consent to officiate the sworn-in ceremony of the appointment of Sarawak’s Menteri Muda (Junior Minister). 12 State Assemblymen sworn in as a Menteri Muda in the ceremony. All 12 previously serve in the same position. 6 of them are members of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), while Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Parti Progresif Demokratik Sarawak (SPDP) and Parti Rakyat Bersatu Sarawak (SUPP) each have 2 representatives. According to the Chief Minister of Sarawak, the 12 Cabinet member of Sarawak will hold their position for certain period of time before a reshuffle is made to fill several vacancies in the future.

13th General Election drew near

On 16th April 2011, the Sarawak’s State Election has been held and Malaysian witness the most fiercely contested State election in the history of Sarawak. Even with decreasing number of seats, BN still retain its 2/3 majority in the State Assembly and Tan Sri Taib Mahmud sworn in as the Chief Minister of Sarawak, thus, becoming the longest serving Chief Minister in Malaysia. After the victory of BN in Sarawak State Election, the political quarrel between the two biggest political alliances in Malaysia, Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) still not yet ended. The chronicle resume with much controversial issue thus lead a speculation of Malaysian 13th General Election drew near.

The 2008 Political Tsunami

In 2008, PR shocking victory leads to Malaysia Political Tsunami which is even greater than that in 1969, but without any bloody tragedy. Malaysian has learned in the hard way of how to retain the peace and harmony of the country. In the election, PR successfully denies BN 2/3 majority in the Parliament and formed a government in 5 states, Kelantan, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perak and Selangor. It is not just an ordinary state. Kelantan is well known as the stronghold of PAS. But, the western coastal states are traditionally the BN states. The downfalls of these states have a serious impact on BN. The SAPP, one of the BN component parties in Sabah has voted a motion of no confidence against the BN and withdraw from the coalition. In addition to that, the BN Chairman at that time Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi reluctantly has to hasten his step down plan.

Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, reluctantly need to step down in 2009. The very sign of PR's success in rise to power.

Nevertheless, the momentum of 2008 does not last long. After 11 months in power, the PR’s government in Perak falls after 3 of its Assemblymen defected to become independent and align themselves to BN. BN later resume to power. It’s created a one year constitutional crisis which finally concluded after the High Court announces Datuk Seri Dr Zambry as the rightful Menteri Besar and the Sultan decision is constitutional. In early of PR rise into power, it has launch consecutive strikes against BN and its peak is the ‘16^th September’ plans of PR to conquer Putrajaya and formed a Federal Government. Nevertheless, after 3 years, PR has to bear the consecutive attack launch by BN, and it is not an easy one. Currently, 12 of PR's Assemblymen in the Parliament has defected and become an independent Assemblymen.

Sign of a General Election

8^th March 2011, marks the three years of Malaysian 12^th Parliament session. It is also the date where there will be no more by-election take place until the parliament session expired in 8^th March 2013. The Malaysian 12^th Parliamentary Session also witness the most unstable political condition where 16 by-election need to be held. The last major election is that of Sarawak, where BN successfully renew its people’s mandate for another 5 years. Thus, it is the first sign of General Election. BN possibly dissolve the Parliament during the time where they have the people’s support. The winning in Sarawak is a chance that they will win in the whole nation.

The real challenge of Najib Administration will be that of Malaysian 13th General Election.

Another apparent proves of the General Election drew near is the action made by the duo of the Prime Minister and his Deputy. Both Najib and Muhyiddin are currently busy to travel across Malaysia to meet the people. It is get more and more frequent especially after the Election in Sarawak. The tour probably just another customary practice for any Prime Minister as it is their job to see his/her people. Nevertheless, it is a two-edge sword. With the Prime Minister meeting his subjects, it can raise the respect of the people towards him.

Plus, the recent events also an apparent proves that the General Election has drew near. Still not yet recover from its court case with Saiful Bukhari, the de facto leader of PKR, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim need to face the “Datuk T’s” accusation of their so call video sex scandal.

The DAP and PAS also not excluded where a tension arise that PAS need to withdraw their alliances with PR if the party is still sane enough to uphold their main objective, to transform Malaysia into an Islamic States. An objectives that clearly clash with DAP’s ideology, to retain Malaysia as a secular state.

The PR’s state Government also faces almost the same attack. A critics grows larger in Kedah especially on how the Kedah’s Government action with the case of UUM. Even though the Menteri Besar of Kedah has made a press statement, it is still not widely known and the presses still go against him.

The rebate issue of UUM has been answered by MB Azizan, but still not widely known.

In Selangor, the more intelligent and experience Tan Sri Khalid to administered Selangor are widely accepted, thus, the only cases he need to handle are an accusation of him as a power-mad person. It is because of his decision to not dissolve the State Assembly if the 13^th General Election is to be held in this year as the Assembly term still has 2 more years to expire.

MB Khalid are able to withstand any challenge that his government had to face. He is brave enough to announce that, Selangor will not dissolve the State Assembly if the Parliament dissolve in 2011.

Conclusion

The 12^th Parliament session officially started in 2008 shall expire in 2013. Nevertheless, it is a rare occurrence in Malaysia for the Parliament session to reach 5 years. Usually, it will dissolve in the fourth year. Even though it is vested for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (the Supreme Ruler) to dissolve the Parliament, His Majesty need to heed the advice of the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister Najib still not yet to comment any of it. But, the rumors about it have flown for quite a long time now. According to rumors, the 13^th General Election are possibly to be held as soon as in this November 2011.

Nevertheless, rumors are just rumors anyway...

HM the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (the Supreme Ruler) of Malaysia, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin and HM the Raja Permaisuri Agong (the Supreme Queen), Tuanku Nur Zahirah among the royal guest present at the wedding of HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Also presence at the wedding is HM the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Queen Saleha.

After attending the wedding, HM Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin and HM Tuanku Nur Zahirah hosted a dinner to meet around 200 Malaysian who resides in London. They came in various background like students and professional.

The Yang Dipertua Negeri (Governor) of Pulau Pinang, Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas today sworn in as the Yang Dipertua Negeri (Governor) of Pulau Pinang for the fourth term. The Governor’s inauguration ceremony was held before the Manager of the Penang High Court, Datuk Zakaria Sam at the Official Residence of the Governor of Pulau Pinang, Seri Mutiara. HE Tun Abd Rahman receives the letter of appointment from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (The Supreme Ruler) of Malaysia, HM Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin on 19^th April 2011 at the National Palace.

Presences in the ceremony are the Chief Minister of Pulau Pinang, Lim Guan Eng; the Former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi; State’s Exco members and State Assemblymen.
