Happy Aidil-Adha 1430

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you
Welcome to my blog.

To all muslim around the world, Happy Aidil Adha. Aidil Adha or in other spelling Eid Al-Adha, is the second festive day in Islam after Eid Al-Fitr (Malay = Aidil Fitri). The festive start with a prayer in the Mosque and followed by a sermon just like Eid Al-Fitr. The difference between this two festive day are Eid Al-Fitr is a celebration day after fasting for 1 month while Eid Al-Adha is a day to commemorate the willingness of Nabi Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Nabi Ismail as an act of obedience to God. Thus, Eid Al-Adha also called as ‘Festival of Sacrifice’.

In Malaysia, it is also named as Hari Raya Haji as the festival is celebrated during the Hajj season.

Eid Al-Adha starts in every 10, 11, 12 and 13 of Zulhijjah in the Islamic Calendar. But in the Gregory calendar, usually there a slight difference according to the place. It is due to the difference angle of view of the visibility of the moon.

In the morning 10 Zulhijjah, the prayer will be held in the mosque followed by a sermon. After the prayer, the sacrifice will begin. Muslims who can afford to do it will sacrifice their best domestic animals. What kind of animal? It must be any domestic animal that has four legs and has reach maturity, For example; camel, cows, goat and sheep. The sacrificial meat later will be given to the poor as a gift.

Birds and pigs are not an option.

My family has done the sacrifice along with my father’s relative a year ago in Shah Alam, Selangor. So, for this year we do not make any sacrifice.

Bird of Paradise

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you.
Welcome to my blog.

This month Flora and Fauna segment will bring you among the beautiful birds in the world, The Bird of Paradise. It is the name of the groups of birds belongs to the Paradisaeidae family. The species is found in eastern Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Torres Straits Islands and eastern Australia. The members of this family are perhaps best known for the plumage of the males of most species, in particular highly elongated and elaborate feathers extending from the beak, wings or head.

In Malay, it is called as Cenderawasih.

The species live in tropical forests, including rainforest, swamps and moss forest. In most species, the diet consists predominantly of fruit, although riflebirds and sicklebills also favour insects and other arthropods.

Birds of paradise build their nests from soft materials, such as leaves, ferns, and vine tendrils, typically placed in a tree fork. Clutch size is somewhat uncertain. In the large species, it is almost always just one egg. Smaller species may produce clutches of 2-3. Eggs hatch after 16–22 days, and the young leave the nest at between 16 and 30 days of age.

Today the birds enjoy legal protection and hunting is only permitted at a sustainable level to fulfill the ceremonial needs of the local tribal population. Hunting for plumes and habitat destruction have reduced some species to endangered status; habitat destruction due to deforestation is now the predominant threat.

The types of Bird of Paradise, the VU symbol is currently near endangered species:-

Greater Bird of Paradise (LC)

Shining Tears

Assalamulaikum and Peace be upon all of you.
Welcome to my blog.

The games segment comes again after almost 8 months. My games segment sources primarily come from the PS2 games. And after almost 5 years, our PS2 has already reached its limit. In my discussion with my brother whether he wants to repair the PS2, he just said, “It is better for us to get a PS3 or PSP”.

This month games segment will cover for the RPG games of Shining Tears. It is an action RPG games co-developed Nextech and Amusement Vision and publish by Sega in 2004 for the Sony PlayStation 2.

The game play tells the story of a mysterious boy named Xion. He is the main character and also the character that the player will use. The story start when an elven girl, Elwin finds Xion washed up on the shore of the river. When Xion wakes up, he finds that he in The Heroes’ Hearth, the tavern located at the town Heroes’ Way.

Xion can’t remember what happen and can only remember his name when Elwin and Pios questioned him. Later, they found out two strange rings in his hands. Pios later investigate the ring and presumed that it was a legendary Twin Dragon Rings. Discarding the thought, Pios investigates more on the rings as Xion falls asleep.

Even Pios has forbids Xion and Elwyn to used the rings, both of them desperately had to used them in one night to saved themselves from a wild wolves. Later they discover the hidden power in the ring. Eventually, they had to use the ring in nation warfare in order to save the country. The Heroes’ Hearth later is joining by other warriors. The lists of the warrior available are Xion, Elwyn, Lazarus, Neige, Mao, Ryuna, Keiner, Volg, and Cupido.

The game play is actually quite simple. You just have to run around the field and defeat the enemy group by group. When you have defeated a certain number of enemies, a green flag will appear at the end of the field so you can advance into another field. It is quite easy in a wide area but in a narrow area, it is can prove difficult and sometime can prove fatal.

In the early stage, I only play alone. But then, my brother realizes that we can play dual, and until the end, my brother and I teaming with each other to fight the enemies. The game play is long and there are many wars that you must engage before you reach the final boss. Sometimes I feel really weird, with all those fighting, we only manage to get a maximum level of 40??

Kin'iro no Corda

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you.
Welcome to my blog.

The animation segment comes once again. The anime for this month sections is Golden Corda or Kin'iro no Corda. I found it when lurking around at the East Coast Mall, Kuantan. The series adapted from the PS2 game from Koei and later adapted into manga. The anime adaptation from manga is titled Kin'iro no Corda: Primo Passo first broadcast in October 2006.

Lili and Hino

The story is about Kahoko Hino, an ordinary student with ordinary life. One day, running late to school, she found Lili, which is a musical fairy (A mischievous one). Lili, delighted that someone can actually see him grants Kahoko a magical violin, and worse, place her in the school annual musical competition, which many students in the music department vie to partake in.

The school, Seiso Academy is founded by someone who actually saved Lili in the past. And the academy is actually a blessing from Lili to him. The school consists of 2 departments, General Education and Music. Each has differs uniform, do not shares classes and separated in two blocks.

Kahoko refuses the offer as she never plays violin before. But Lili keeps pleading Kahoko to play and to extend depressed with Kahoko attitude that she supposedly happy and overjoyed becomes the ‘Chosen One’. Kahoko then reluctantly accept the offer and play the pieces she likes. As she practices her pieces, Kahoko is amazed that she can play any piece on the violin as long as she knows the tune and plays it with her heart.

Accepting the offer of the music competition, she later gets in touch with other boys around her. There are 6 competitor and later 7 but only 2 girls including her competes.

Kahoko Hino (violin)

Hino Kahoko

Kahoko is the main female protagonist of the series. She is a second year at Seiso Academy. She has a warm and friendly personality and is very honest and straightforward, as shown from the way she expresses herself through her violin.

Ryoutaro Tsuchiura (piano)

Tsuchiura Ryotaro

Tsuchiura is a second year as well as Kahoko's friend. He and Kahoko met after he ran into her, nearly knocking her down a staircase, saving her just in time in episode 1. Their friendship eventually grows, and she even confesses to him that she knew nothing of playing the violin

Tsukimori Len (violin)

Tsukimori Len

Len is in the Music department and is in Year 2, Class A. He is quiet and cold towards everyone else, including his own parents. Later, he warms up to Kahoko and eventually gives her advice on how to hold and play the violin properly.

Hihara Kazuki (trumpet)

Hihara Kazuki

Kazuki is an outgoing person and is extremely friendly to others. He has little sense of social boundary. During his time in middle school, he was in the track team but pulled out to play the trumpet in the school band.

Yunoki Azuma (Flute)

Yunoki Azuma

Azuma is a third year student. He appears to be a very considerate and kind to others, and is considered a "prince" in school because of his good looks, perfect grades, and charming personality. Azuma comes from a well-brought family of traditional Kado background and he is extremely capable in traditional Japanese rituals and customs, like ikebana, tea ceremonies and traditional gardening.

Fuyuumi Shoko (Clarinet)

Fuyumi Shouko

Shoko is the only other female competitor in the concours, and is also shown to play a little piano from the special episode. She’s an extremely shy girl. She is very hesitant and easily intimidated.

Shimizu Keiichi (Cello)

Shimizu Keiichi

Keiichi is the youngest male competitor in the concours. He likes to do things at his own pace. He is very drowsy all the time and often seems confused or in a daze. Keiichi speaks slowly and politely, in a quiet voice, and can be found sleeping anywhere, anytime.

This anime brought back my memory the first time I play the violin. Over 2 years joining the orchestra club, perform in the events and even convocation ceremony and dinner is very enjoyable. But, only just 1 year I’m not playing the violin enough to make me back to my incompetence state. The story nevertheless brings back my spirit to plays the violin again. Miss it very much. If I can plays the Canon in D in the right way is more than enough. Practice makes perfect…. =D

Here some of the solo and duet that I like.

Ave Maria (Duet, Kahoko and Tsukimori)

Gavotte (Duet Kahoko and Hihara)

Ai no Aisatsu (Quintet; Len, Shimizu, Yunoki, Hihara, Tsichiura)

Welcome to my blog.

“What should be sacrifice for love?”

This is the popular quote in the Nur Kasih drama that reaching its ending soon. Or in Malay, “Apa yang perlu dikorbankan demi cinta?” Even the original slot still has a few episodes left, the tv3’s evening slot from 7.25pm until 8.00pm has been used for Nur Kasih without any interruption from commercial break. Still remember in the last time episode, Nur Amina is depressed by her husband decision for not taking her to his trip to India even though he has promised to Nur Amina that they will take 3 days off and take her to Taj Mahal. The last minute decision by Adam led to a second separation between him and Nur Amina. What happen next will be aired tonight. (Very excited..)

The Taj Mahal is a tomb built by The Mughal Emperor at that time, Shah Jahan for his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It takes about 20 years to complete. It is also among the Mughal Empire finest architecture. The Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. The construction of Taj Mahal started in 1632 and finished around 1653.

The central focus of Taj Mahal is the tomb. Like any other Mughal’s Tomb, it used Persian origin as its basic elements. The white marble structure stands on a square plinth and consists of a symmetrical building with an iwan (an arch-shaped doorway) topped by a large dome and finial. The base structure is essentially a large, multi-chambered cube with chamfered corners, forming an unequal octagon that is approximately 55 meters on each of the four long sides. On each of these sides, a massive pishtaq, or vaulted archway, frames the iwan with two similarly shaped, arched balconies stacked on either side.

This motif of stacked pishtaqs is replicated on the chamfered corner areas, making the design completely symmetrical on all sides of the building. Four minarets frame the tomb, one at each corner of the plinth facing the chamfered corners. The main chamber houses the false sarcophagi of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan; the actual graves are at a lower level.

The minarets are about 40 meters tall.

Even though Shah Jahan has three wives, his most favorite is Mumtaz Mahal. Her real name is Arjumand Banu Begum. She is also the mother to Mughal well-known Emperor, Aurangzeb. She died during the birth of her fourteenth child, Gauhara Begum. The grief of Shah Jahan led to an inspiration of Taj Mahal. Arjumand married with Prince Khurram (Shah Jahan) when she is 19. Even Khurram has other 2 wives, their relations is nothing more than a status of marriage. Arjumand is the one gain the attention of Khurram and the intimacy, affection, attention and favour to arjumand exceed any other. Thus, she gets the title Mumtaz Mahal Begum (Chosen One of the Palace).

Mumtaz Mahal had a very deep and loving marriage with Shah Jahan. Even during her lifetime, poets would extol her beauty, gracefulness and compassion. Mumtaz Mahal was Shah Jahan's trusted companion, travelling with him all over the Mughal Empire. His trust in her was so great that he even gave her his imperial seal, the “Muhr Uzah”. Mumtaz was portrayed as the perfect wife with no aspirations to political power in contrast to Nur Jehan, the wife of Jahangir who had wielded considerable influence in the previous reign. She was a great influence on him, apparently often intervening on behalf of the poor and destitute. But she also enjoyed watching elephant and combat fights performed for the court. It was quite common for women of noble birth to commission architecture in the Mughal Empire.

The Taj Mahal is the symbol of love to her beauty and life.

Denonym for each state.

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you.
Welcome to my blog.

All of us actually knew the denonym for citizens of Malaysia. We were called as Malaysian, but how about for each respective state in Malaysia? I have found some of popular denonym, but, some states are still unknown. Let go check it out.

Sabah – Sabahan

Sarawak – Sarawakian

Kelantan – Kelantanese

Johor – Johorean

Malacca – Malaccan

Selangor – Selangorean

Perak – Perakian

Pulau Pinang – Penangite

Kedah – Kedahan

The acronyms above are the one that popularly used. But the one below still need some revision.

I seriously don't know about Terengganu’s denonym. If taking Kelantan as revision, then the most accurate is Terengganese. During my research, it led me to Terengganuan. Still need revision though.

Just like the case of Terengganu, Pahang’s denonym is similar and has resemblance with Pulau Pinang. Probably Pahangite. My research led me to Pahangian. Which one more accurate?

Negeri Sembilan
This is the hardest of all. It can be Negrish, Negeri Sembilanian or Negeri Sembilanese.

My research led me to Perlisian. Any ideas?

Selangor Royal Family

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you.
Welcome to my blog.

Finally my favorite segment of the month, Royal Family! The topic for today is the second last and only one more to go. Today, we will see the monarch of the most developed state in Malaysia, The Selangorean Royal Family. It is probably the second youngest royal family in Malaysia and has a customary relation with the Perakian Royal Family as the first ruler of Selangor is crowned by the Sultan of Perak. The Ruler of Selangor is styled as HRH Sultan of Selangor.

The current Sultan of Selangor is HRH Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Ibni Al-marhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah. He is the ninth Sultan of Selangor. His reign started since 2001.

The consort to the Sultan of Selangor is styled according to her bloodline. A royal born consort is styled as HRH Tengku Ampuan of Selangor (Queen of Selangor), while commoner consort is styled as Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor (Consort of Selangor). The position is currently vacant as the Sultan is divorced, unmarried and without a consort.

The Royal House of Selangor are descended from the Yang di-Pertuans of Riau, Indonesia (see that family). They are Bugis, originating from Luwu in the islands of the Celebes. Raja Lumu, second son of Raja Chelak, the 2nd Yang di-Pertuan Muda of Riau, conquered Selangor and established his legitimacy by being installed by the Sultan of Perak in 1766. Frequently at odds with the Dutch and native Malay rulers, his son Ibrahim, was expelled from Selangor in 1786. Ibrahim eventually reached an accommodation with the Dutch and was allowed to return, two years later. Rich tin deposits had been discovered during the sixteenth century, this lead to increasing numbers of Chinese immigrants to work the mines. Fighting between the Bugis and Chinese immigrants and the indigenous Malays became more frequent. Eventually this led to British intervention, and the imposition of a British Resident in 1874. Selangor joined the fledgling federation, known as the Federated Malay States in 1897.

The land for the new federal capital at Kuala Lumpur, being donated by the Sultan of Selangor. Economic development was quite rapid with the introduction of rubber cultivation and port facilities. The Japanese occupied the state in 1941 and deposed the ruling Sultan, in favour of his disinherited elder brother. He was deposed on the return of British troops at War's end, and the rightful Sultan restored. The State joined the Federation of Malaya on 1948. In 1974, the Federal capital area, consisting of Kuala Lumpur and certain surrounding areas, were permanently ceded to the Federal government.
