The celebration for this year is also special in its own way, the first time to be held at the vicinity of Malaysia Parliament. It is also the 50th anniversary of our Parliament (formed in 1959). Plus, to respect the month of Ramadhan and the threat of H1N1 pandemic, the celebration is done as simple as possible.

COMMENT

Perdana Putra
Grand Price to whoever formed a government in Malaysia, Perdana Putra

I will do this in an easy way, cast your vote based on candidates and not based on Political Parties. Remember, in Parliamentary Democracy, you are casting your vote for the candidate and not for political parties as there are possibilities of ‘defecting’ MP, and this can prove to be fatal. Still remember the Perak Crisis right?

So, vote wisely Malaysian

Perlis Royal Family

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you.
Welcome to my blog.

Today royal segment will cover about Perlis Royal Family. Perlis is also the smallest state in Malaysia that has its own monarch. The ruler of Perlis is styled as HRH Raja of Perlis.

Raja of perlis

The current Raja of Perlis is HRH Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin ibni Al-marhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail. He is the 12th ruler of Perlis. His reign started since 2000.

Raja Perempuan of Perlis

The consort to the Ruler of Perlis is styled as HRH Raja Perempuan of Perlis. The current holder is HRH Tuanku Fauziah binti Tengku Abdul Rashid.

HISTORY

The State of Perlis (Negeri Perlis Indera Kayangan) has its origins during the period of Thai rule over the northern Malay states. The Thais followed a classic "divide and rule policy", no doubt in full conformity with the traditional Asian values of which we have heard so much. They divided the states into smaller units under, frequently headed by rival members of the ruling houses. Perlis, a region within Kedah, became a separate polity under the former Sultan Zia ud-din Mukarram Shah II, after he abdicated in 1803.

Sultan Zia's daughter married a Syed of Arabic descent, named Abu Bakar Harun Jamal' ul-Lail. The latter had been Penghulu, or subordinate chief, of Arau since 1797. His son and successor, Syed Husain received promotion to Raja of Perlis Indera Kayangan in 1843, after helping the Thais to suppress a revolt by the Raja of Ligor, one of the micro states into which Patani had been divided. Syed Husain's successors ruled peacefully for the rest of the century, sending the occasional tributes of gold or silver flowers to the Siamese overlord in Bangkok.

By the terms of the 1909 Anglo-Siamese Treaty, Perlis, along with three other Malay states under nominal Siamese control, also became a British Protectorate. Formal sovereignty being transferred in 1911, when Perlis became one of the unfederated Malay states. Located near the southern Thai border, Perlis was one of the first areas to be attacked by Japanese and Thai forces in 1941. Japanese occupation resulted in the rightful Heir Apparent being set aside when the reigning Raja died in early 1943. This was followed by a return to Thai sovereignty on 20th August 1943. The state was returned to British rule after the Japanese defeat on 8th September 1945. Their nominee as Raja was removed nine days later.

Singapore Independence Day

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you.
Welcome to my blog.

6.40pm in 9 August 2009, mark the 44th years of Singapore's Independence. The National Day Parade 2009 takes place at Marina Bay and most of the country VIP is presence including President of Singapore, S.R Nathan, Lee Kuan Yew, Goh Chok Tong and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

After 44 years, Singapore emerges as the most developed country in South East Asia. But it is not build in a single night. Everyone knows that Singapore once is part of Malaysia, and separations of both sides are the best way for survival for each nation. Both country shares much in common and needed one another. But, there still unsolved issues of both sides. New bridge to replace the old causeway, raw water supplied, and airspace are among the unsolved issue that still bring nightmare for both sides.

Thus, lead to some questions for both sides alike. Should the separations take place?

POLITICAL SURVIVAL

2 years in Malaysia, Malaysians look upon a serious conflict between both Premier at that time, Tunku Abdul Rahman and Lee Kuan Yew. Tunku Abdul Rahman who led the Alliance still in favour of the constitutions when Malaya gain independence while Lee Kuan Yew in favour of Malaysian Malaysia. This actually led to a racial conflict and it is getting worse when PAP participate in the Parliment General Elections eventhough its has clear in the agreement that he should not. The crisis led to a separation of both sides in 1965.

What would happen if the separation did not takes place?

It is possibly led to arrest of some political leaders at that time and could possibly ignite more tearful racial riots.

Thus, in 9 August 1965, a special sessions of Malaysia Parliament took place to discuss about this issues. Both Lee Kuan Yew and Tunku Abdul Rahman neck to neck fighting for their cause until one bill has been announced by Tunku Abdul Rahman to separated Singapore from the Federation, while the same bill is announced by Lee Kuan Yew to maintained Singapore in the Federation. The outcome is 126 MP at that time agreed without objections to separate Singapore from the Federation and thus Singapore became a new independence nation.

MERGER?

If the two sides could not work together, why merges in the first place?

In 1961, the idea of mergence Singapore in Malaysia is bring up by Lee Kuan Yew. It is due to the fact that Communist Party has gain a support in Singapore and it is likely that Singapore could become a new communist country in the region. Malaya has been fighting with the communist for years and this can prove to be fatal. Singapore joining the Federation is the only solutions for the communist problem.

Of course, it is led to another problem, Racial Imbalance. But, the problem is solved when Sabah and Sarawak agree to join the federation as well.

BRIGHT SIDES

I have went to singapore to visits my relatives a few years ago. And in that time, I wonder, is the Singapore will totally differs if the separations did not takes place?

The answer is, Of Course. Not only to the facility of both sides, but also to me as well. Rather in Johor, I would possibly been born and raised in Singapore. My grandfather stays in Singapore before the separations. He has told me once that he actually had walking from Seletar to Yinchu and Sembawang in that time.

Even there is much negative impact. There is also a bright side. Rather than communist nations, Singapore emerges as a democratic country. While racial harmony can be attain in Malaysia.

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abd Razak

The relations of both nations now take a new step ahead under a new leadership of Dato Seri Najib Razak and Lee Hsien Loong. Rather than fighting each other, it is best for us as new generations to improve this relation.

Enjoy.

Malayan Tiger

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you.
Welcome to my blog.

Flag of Malaysia

Coat of arm of malaysia

This is the special series of Flora and Fauna sections for Independence Month. Before this we have see the National Flower of the country, today we will see the National Animal of Malaysia and also one of the symbol in our Coat of Arm, Tiger. Officially, it is known as the Malayan Tiger.

Photobucket

The Malayan Tiger also known in Malay as Harimau Belang. The scientific name for the species is Panthera tigris jacksoni. It is not considered as a sub-species in its own right until 2004. Recent counts showed there are 600-800 Malayan tigers in the wild, making it the most common tiger subspecies other than the Bengal and perhaps also the Indochinese tigers.

It is, nevertheless, still an endangered sub-species.

CHARACTERISTICS

Malayan Tiger

The Malayan tiger, along with the Sumatran tiger, is perhaps the smallest extant subspecies of tiger. Its stripe pattern is similar to the Indochinese tiger but its size is closer to the Sumatran tigers, with an average weight of 120 kg for adult males and 100 kg for females. Male Malayan tigers measures around 237cm in length from head to tail and female Malayan tigress around 200cm in length.

BIOLOGY

Malayan tigers prey on sambar deer, barking deer, wild boar and livestock. Tigers in Taman Negara also prey on sun bear. Whether their principal prey includes gaur and tapir is unknown. Tigers occur at very low densities 1.1-1.98 tigers per 100km² in the rainforest as a result of low prey densities, thus in order to maintain viable tiger populations of minimum of 6 breeding females, reserves need to be larger than 1000km².

Biological/ecological research on the Malayan tiger is still in infancy. For example, information on dietary preference, morphological measurements, demographic parameters, social structure, communication, home range sizes, dispersal capabilities are all lacking

HABITAT

Photobucket

It is usually found in the southern and central part of Peninsular of Malaysia.

NATIONAL ICON

The Malayan tiger is depicted in the coat of arms of Malaysia, symbolising the government and appears in various heraldry of Malaysian institutions such as Maybank, Proton and FAM. It symbolizes bravery and strength to Malaysians. The tiger has been given various nicknames by Malaysians, notably "Pak Belang," which literally means "Uncle Stripes."

Pak Belang features prominently in folklore as one of Sang Kancil's ("The Mouse Deer's") adversaries.

National Flower

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you.
Welcome to my blog.

Flag of Malaysia

Coat of arm of malaysia

Today Flora and Fauna segment will cover about our national flower, Hibiscus. Maybe most of us have known it, but how many of us actually knew about it? Its scientific names, sub-species and plus, not only Malaysia adopt its as National Flower.

Are you ready to see it? Let’s go check it out.

HIBISCUS

Red Hibiscus

The Hibiscus or ‘Bunga Raya’ in Malay is our National Flower. But please takes notice because Hibiscus has many colors and our national flower is the Red Hibiscus. Still remember the controversial Malay Keris which usually well known as Malaysia symbol? Many of Malaysians objects the idea because its looks like it’s only make the Malaysia more MALAY. But never fear my friends, How many of us actually knew or simply forgot or doesn’t even want to know that our National Flower sub-species is actually known as “The Chinese Hibiscus”.

The red hibiscus scientific name is Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and known colonially as Chinese Hibiscus, China rose and shoe flower. In Indonesia it is called as Kembang Sepatu. It is native in East Asia.

It was introduced in Malaysia in 12th century and has been nominated as National Flower in 1958 by Ministry of Agriculture with few other flowers such as ylang ylang, jasmine, lotus, rose and Bunga Tanjung. In 1960, it is declared by government of Malaysia that Hibiscus is our national flower.

The reason is, Hibiscus known as ‘Bunga Raya’ which literally means ‘Big Flower’. The red of the petals symbolizes the courage, life, and rapid growth of the Malaysian, and the five petals represent the five Rukun Negara of Malaysia.

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is considered to have a number of medical uses in Chinese herbology.

OTHER NATIONAL SYMBOL

Photobucket

Other than Malaysia, Hibiscus is also a national flower of South Korea and known as 'mugunghwa'.

Hibiscus syriacus is the national flower of South Korea. The flower appears in national emblems, and Korea is compared poetically to the flower in the South Korean national anthem. The flower's symbolic significance stems from the Korean word mugung, meaning "immortality". Hibiscus syriacus is a widely cultivated ornamental shrub in the genus Hibiscus.

Common names include Rose of Sharon (especially in North America), Shrub Althea, and Rose of Althea.

Rank 1 in the world

Assalamualaikum and Peace be upon all of you
Welcome to my blog.

Flag of Malaysia

Coat of arm of malaysia

Malaysia still has many to develop and achieve in every field in the world. Sometimes, even the Malaysian have an inferiority complex syndrome towards our beloved Malaysia. But, some of us Malaysian actually achieve the top of the world. Who there are? Let’s go check it out.

Nicol David

Nicol David

Nicol David probably the most well known heroin of Malaysia. She is our professional Squash Player. The Squash Queen has achieved the world no.1 women squash player (and also the first Asian to achieve the title). She captured the World Open title in 2005, 2006 and 2008, and the British Open title in 2005, 2006 and 2008.

Nicol David's other notable achievements include the Asian squash championship, which she won with a record of six times (in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008). She also held a 13-month, 51-match winning streak, from March 2006 to April 2007 when she finally lost to Natalie Grinham in the final of the 2007 Seoul Open. In today's standard of professional squash, which is regarded by many as being much more competitive than what it was decades ago, having a winning streak comparable to this is an achievement not easily obtainable.

The former Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, a fellow Penangite, quipped once that David is "now more famous than me".On July 12, 2008, Nicol is among 497 people honoured in conjunction with the 70th birthday of the Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas. Nicol is among 28 people who receive the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN), which carries the title "Datuk", making her the youngest person in Penang to be conferred Datukship.

The most I respect about her is her consistency. Not many athletes can actually keep their consistence like Nicol does.

Lee Chong Wei

Lee chong wei

Another person who receive the top world rank in their career is Datuk Lee Chong Wei (simplified Chinese: 李宗伟; traditional Chinese: 李宗偉; pinyin: Lǐ Zōngwěi). He is also our professional badminton player. Lee won the silver medal in the 2008 Olympic Games, thus becoming the first Malaysian to reach the final of the men's singles event and ending Malaysia's Olympic medal drought since the 1996 Games. This achievement also earned him the title Datuk, and a description by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak as national hero.

As a singles player, Lee was again ranked first worldwide on August 21, 2008. He is the third Malaysian men's singles shuttler after Rashid Sidek and Roslin Hashim to achieve such a ranking (since official rankings were first kept in the 1980s), and is the only Malaysian shuttler to hold the ranking for more than two weeks.

In his early life, he actually favored basketball and when he is 11 years old, he started learn badminton with his father. Later, he attracted the local badminton coach before discovered by Misbun Sidek. He joins the national squad when he was 17 years old.

Victoria Institutions

VI March band

The Victoria Institutions has made us proud after emerges victorious in World Marching Band in Modenna, Italy, in 5 july 2009.
